Heartbreaking, gut wrenching

I'm sitting here trying to decide how to review this. I enjoyed 95% of this story....but that one gut wrenching part caused me to sit the book down for 3 days and decide whether or not I wanted to finish. My heart tore into pieces and it was a place I was not sure I wanted to go.
In the end, the need to finish this story won out and I'm glad it did. After reading inhibitions I was excitedly awaiting the release of unrestricted, where can this story go (I don't want to ruin the end of book 1 or anything in this story so I'm being vague). Kimberly Bracco has taken this story, this couple, to places beyond your expectations to see if they can come together at the end for an HEA. The emotion dragged out of you, hate, sadness, rage, happiness, udder dispare etc its a ride you will not soon forget. For that reason solely this is a 5 star read. For the big ugly tears this is a 5 star read. This us the type of story that will sit with you for a long time. I had to talk it out with a friend of mine and until I started writing this review was still uncertain of how I felt.
Well done Ms. Bracco on an emotion evoking great book.

Surprising and speaks to your heart!

So... you have to read book one! Not only because it's epic, but also because you'll be confused if you start with book two and won't have the feels and the love for Ashley and Tanner that you need to appreciate book two (Unrestricted).

***Some spoilers***

Unrestricted picks up where Inhibitions left off. Tanner, Tanner, Tanner... you silly man you! Honestly, to walk away from a woman who you had to know was faithful and to be so spiteful with your words before you do so?? MAN!

Ashley does NOT forgive easily, not where Tanner is concerned. She ends up with two jobs to cover what NOT having him around will require. Which results in the ultimate heartbreak and a car crash. I did NOT see that coming and was not only completely SHOCKED but very saddened by it. Their poor baby!!!

The middle of this book was crazy sad. I honestly think a disclaimer should be in there. Not because I couldn't handle it, but I was so SHOCKED and it messed with me a little :( Totally doesn't ruin the story, but it was just so sad and I was unprepared at 1am.

Time goes by, therapy visits are made. It's just so hard to watch Ashley struggle. At first I was feeling annoyed by her lack of letting Tanner in, because I love Tanner. But when I think about it rationally and from a real point, then I realize what she experienced was REAL and true to herself. If someone goes through the $h!t storm she did and doesn't end up a little "mental" and mean... well then I don't know, but she had real reactions and she spoke to me in a way that was sad and endearing. I LOVE ASHLEY! She is so strong.

The end, you'll have to read, but it makes all the tears YOU WILL SHED worth it!

Great Book!

If I didn't have such an accelerated summer course I think I would have enjoyed reading this book much more slowly. It is up to date and really interesting. Makes you think of the retail world differently.. There is so much to learn in Business. I highly recommend this book.

A Valuable Resource For Implementing and Maintaining Security and Privacy On The Internet

If you think there is little to nothing you can do to maintain some sort of security and privacy when accessing the Internet, think again. The author of this book has provided information on a number of security products and strategies for the reader to choose from depending on his or her Internet activities and preferences. What I especially like about this book, even more than the many useful products and associated links, is the way the author expands on many of the products' descriptions and usage to help the reader establish a security "mindset". Having spent 20 years actively involved in the computer security field for a major financial institution, I consider this mindset to be critical for an Internet user if privacy and security are to be achieved and maintained.

There are many key topics covered in this book. First of all, the author provides considerable information on the highly effective Tor Project software, one of the most important tools for achieving privacy and anonymity on the Internet. Maybe you have a need for temporary e-mail addresses that forward mail to a "real" e-mail address? You will find out about products that do that too (I have made extensive use of one for years called GishPuppy). Or software for generating strong passwords, tactics for keeping your E-mails private, encrypting stored date, and tips on keeping financial transactions private including a nice section on Bitcoin. Plus there's more such as security considerations when using social networks, recommendations for Google Chrome and Mozilla Firefox extensions as well as mobile apps. There is much to like in this book.

I was provided with a copy of this book in exchange for my honest review and feel fortunate in receiving it. Some of the products and strategies mentioned I was familiar with but there were others that were completely new to me. Highly recommended - both for those new to computer security and privacy issues as well as more seasoned users.

Offers More Information Than I'd Have Believed Possible

When Rob Robideau offered me a review copy of his e-book "Incognito Toolkit: Tools, Apps and Creative Methods for Remaining Anonymous, Private and Secure While Communicating, Publishing, Buying and Researching Online" (whew--the title is long enough to be the whole review!), I really didn't know what to expect. As a casual Internet user, but not a computer or communications expert by any means, I thought I already knew enough about online security issues to at least use secure passwords, and to take certain obvious, rudimentary steps to protect my privacy and personal information whilst browsing the Web.

As it turns out, I knew nothing.

Mr. Robideau's book is an amazing resource that contains more detailed, useful, nuts-and-bolts information than I would have believed he could cram into it. It's chock-full of techniques, tips and tricks that any and all Internet users need to know in order to protect themselves online. Oh, I suppose the NSA could defeat many or all of them, but at least Mr. Robideau offers practical ways for users to control the hemorrhaging of their personal information onto the Internet, and its possible use by unscrupulous parties.

His book is much more than first meets the eye. It also features embedded links to websites to hit for more information on many of the topics, and from which you can obtain, mostly free, the software applications and browser extensions that he recommends to improve your privacy and anonymity. A couple of the links I tried produced the dreaded 404 error, but most of them are active and relevant, and thus enormously increase the book's interactivity, scope and usefulness. The Lastpass and Fake Name Generator applications, for example, especially interest me. Every Internet user should find these valuable. Some of his discussions are more technical than I could absorb completely on a first pass, and some seem intended for those with more paranoia and/or less regard for the law than I, and presumably most other readers, have. But his treatment of the subject is extremely thorough, and you can use as many or as few of his recommendations as you like. Even if you only adopt the minimum, you'll still be far better off--and far more anonymous online.

Before I read "Incognito Toolkit, etc., etc.," I didn't even know how much I didn't know about the subject. Now, armed with the valuable information and recommendations it contains, I will take steps to ensure my online privacy is protected to an appropriate degree. You should, too.

Informative, concise, and comprehensive.

I found this book packed with information that is very helpful to anyone wanting to reduce their digital footprint.
I know that I have not taken the time to gather all of the information related to doing this, but the author of this book has put in extensive time and research that in turn will save me and others the time of doing so. I learned several things while reading this book and got new ideas on how to use my information. I think that one could use this as a manual and be able to reference it frequently in order to use the tools contained within this book. This book was written with simplicity, even when talking about some of the things that some of us have never worked with before. Book for the soul and for fans of Frida Kahlo

A friend recommended this book to me and I would recommend it to anyone who loves fabulous clothes, who loves Frida Kahlo, or who loves color and fabrics. It is simply a feast to look at, and interesting to read if you can pull your eyes away from the photos.

When Frida Kahlo died, Diego Rivera had her wardrobe sealed for 50 years. It's now been opened and two women have been restoring the fabrics so the clothes can be seen as they once were.

I thought it was particularly wonderful that the authors showed the clothing next to the paintings or photographs that showed Frida wearing that particular piece. She painted herself wearing her own garments - or at least they were on hangers in her paintings. In other cases, she was photographed wearing garments that are in the collection. It feels so intimate to see the clothing and art in juxtaposition. It makes you want to completely redo your wardrobe in similar style.

Just a love of a book.

The Less Obvious Art of Frida Kahlo

Time and again I open this glorious book to lift my spirits and for inspiration with anything having to do with color or style. Elegantly bound and designed, "Self Portrait in a Velvet Dress" shows a woman who celebrated her life with the native fabrics and brilliant colors of her native Mexico. An artist in everything she touched, this book inspires me every time I pick it up.

This book is fill with bright colors and amazing details of Frida's wardrobe. The book not only shows and describes the clothing, shoes, jewelry that Frida wore, it also shows rooms of her home which give one a look into her life. By reading and viewing this book, a part of Frida's life is revealed like it has never been done before. I give this book, five stars out of five.

a Star Wars romance

The latest canon Star Wars novel, Dark Disciple actually comes from a script written by Katie Lucas, Matt Michnovetz, and Dave Filoni for The Clone Wars animated TV show before it was canceled. In Dark Disciple, the Jedi Council sends Quinlan Vos on a mission to recruit Asajj Ventress to help assassinate Count Dooku. I’ll try not to reveal too many spoilers, which is especially difficult for this book, and will focus on plot developments that happen during the first quarter of the novel.

Although Quinlan Vos and Asajj Ventress are both fan favorites, I’d never imagined that they’d appear together, much less in a Clone Wars novel. Yet, after having read the novel, the pairing seems natural. They’re both strong, sexy - yes, sexy - characters who have touched the Dark Side. Dark Disciple is a character study of how these two learn to trust and respect one another.

Before I go on, I want to reassure readers about Quinlan Vos. Both Vos and Ventress initially appeared in DarkHorse’s Republic comic series (no longer considered canon). Ventress became a key character on The Clone Wars TV show, showing more depth and nuance than the comic version. By the end of Season 5, she had turned her back on Count Dooku and had become a bounty hunter who sometimes worked with the Jedi. By contrast, many fans were disheartened by Quinlan Vos’ single appearance in “Hunt for Ziro” because he came across as a shallow beach bum rather than the brooding, sensual Jedi who had flirted with the Dark Side.

Fortunately, Dark Disciple does much to rehabilitate Quinlan’s character. The Quinlan Vos in Dark Disciple isn’t an exact copy of the one from the Republic comics, but it’s clear that the comics inspired Katie Lucas and Christie Golden. In fact, the novel is an interesting example of how, after Disney rebooted the Star Wars continuity, authors can take themes or characters from the old Expanded Universe and repurpose them for the new canon. As the saying goes, “History doesn’t repeat itself but it often rhymes.” So, if you'd been frustrated by Quinlan's portrayal in The Clone Wars, I highly suggest reading Dark Disciple to put your mind at ease. At the same time, the book is accessible enough so that readers unfamiliar with the comics can follow the story (although readers should at least have watched all six seasons of The Clone Wars).

One facet of Quinlan Vos from the Republic comics that plays an important role in the novel is his sexuality. In the comics, Quinlan was depicted as an epitome of masculinity. The comic artwork typically emphasized his physical body, making him possibly the first Star Wars beefcake. Quinlan was the only Jedi to pursue passionate romantic relationships openly. All this makes him an excellent foil for Asajj Ventress, who is also a sexually charged character, albeit in a very different way. Even in The Clone Wars, Asajj Ventress had a creepy way of flirting with her enemies, especially Obi-Wan Kenobi (remember when she kissed a Clonetrooper just as she killed him). Yet, Quinlan’s flirting stems from a desire to be closer to people, whereas Asajj’s puts a distance between her and other people. Quinlan sought intimacy, whereas Asajj feared intimacy.

The banter between Quinlan and Asajj in Dark Disciple is as witty as the best encounters between Asajj and Obi-Wan in the show. Quinlan's first encounters with Asajj are often awkward. He tries flirting with Asajj to put her off guard, and she views him as a meddling beach bum (indeed, the book explains that Quinlan sometimes acted like a beach bum to put others at ease and because he enjoyed his work as a Jedi). But they soon become partners, and then something more. Although they don’t agree on much, they soon realize that they enjoy the other’s company and even develop affection. Fortunately, the book doesn't rush to get to the action; it takes its time to allow their relationship to grow naturally. The narrative alternates between their points of view, allowing readers to see how each perceives - and misperceives - the other.

Star Wars doesn't do romance particularly well. Aside from Han and Leia in Empire Strikes Back, most Star Wars romances feel forced or too sudden. In the old Expanded Universe, Luke Skywalker proposes to Mara Jade out of the blue. Yet, perhaps because they’re both strong, sensual characters, the relationship between Quinlan and Asajj works. I truly believe that Quinlan is the one man who could get Asajj to lower her defenses. And Asajj gives Quinlan a much more tempting reason to leave the Jedi Order than the Republic comics ever did. Like many relationships, there are times when their love is selfless, and other times when an unhealthy attachment blinds them to deeper problems. Having been in a serious relationship, I could identify with the way a small gesture or look might make all the difference.

I’m tempted to call Dark Disciple the first Star Wars romance novel, but that would minimize the rest of the novel (and evoke unwanted comparisons with Fifty Shades of Grey). As much as I would love to have seen the produced episodes, I actually think this story works better as a novel. The ability of the narrator to get inside the characters’ heads helps to convey the complex emotions they’re processing. Also, there are some very sensual moments, including kissing, that might not have survived the censors at Cartoon Network. Christie Golden chooses to play the story straight, as a romantic tragedy, and downplays the sometimes over-the-top nature action scenes it inherited from The Clone Wars.

I’m reluctant to talk much more about Dark Disciple because I don’t want to spoil the novel. I’ll simply say that this is easily the most meaningful of the new canon novels in terms of character development and its impact on the overall saga. Indeed, Christie Golden has set a high standard for characterization in the new Star Wars novel line. I enjoyed learning about - caring about - Quinlan Vos and Asajj Ventress. I was also fascinated to see how the story incorporated elements of Quinlan and Asajj's stories from the Republic comics - almost as if adapting the comic to a new medium. If you cared about either of these characters - or just like reading about strong characters, I highly recommend Dark Disciple.

If you liked the Clone Wars, you'll enjoy this book.

Fantastic, action packed book. From the first few pages this pulls you in with a dramatic set up scene. Without giving any plot details away I will just say this was a very enjoyable read that takes you into the period of the Clone Wars (in the timeline this takes place after the series and before Episode 3). The two lead characters are both engaging and a worth while read for Star Wars fans who liked Episode 2 and the Clone Wars animated series. Recommended!

A terrific and fun read

I'll admit it, I'm a bit of a Star Wars geek. While I'm not into the comics or cartoon shows, I have read every novel and (of course) watched every movie multiple times. It's unfortunate that many of my favorites are no longer canon, yet if this book is representative of of what to expect going forward it's going to be a fantastic ride. My understanding is that this novel is based on a series of un-produced The Clone Wars episodes featuring Asajj Ventress. For those who do not already know she is a former Sith apprentice turned bounty hunter, and a very compelling character. Without giving too much of the story away, Jedi Knight Quinlan Vos teams up with Ventress in an attempt to assassinate Count Dooku. Reminiscent of the interrelationship between Ben Skywalker and Vestara Khai, while not a romance novel exactly the interplay between the two is far more complex and better written than virtually anything else in the original novels. And, it's compelling reading... Solid characterization, a believable plot, and excellent pacing make this a terrific read. I finished it in two days.
