I read this book in almost one sitting. It has compelling factual data and riveting anecdotes. But, unlike Backlash, by Susan Faludi, which was almost totally negative, the authors also look at women's strengths in negotiation, and give some ideas for how to put their ideas into action.

It's not a how-to-negotiate book; I've spent the last 23 years practicing corporate law, negotiating sophisticated legal transactions and running an in-house department. This book goes beyond "how to" into "why". Essential reading for any woman!

Familiar, But Well-Supported

There isn't anything surprising in here to any woman who has been around the business world for a while. However, the book's real value is that it provides empirical evidence to support Everywoman's anecdotal observations.

What I found most useful about this book is evidence cited that women's "tend and befriend," cooperative approach to negotiation results in greater gains in the long run, in part because of women's ability to reframe. It also confirmed my impression that women are more successful in business when they soften their mode of delivery (although not their message).

The authors further reframe the scope of "negotiation" to include women's personal, including homemaking, lives, to remind us all that equality should not end at the thresholds to our homes.

Ultimately, every negotiator has to find his or her own personal style. This book made me feel just that much better about including lipstick and high heels in my arsenal.

Highly recommended

This book is incredibly well-researched and thoughtfully laid out. It builds its case beautifully with interesting examples, then backs it up with empirical research. And credit to the authors' writing styles, for they do not point fingers or whine about the way things are. And they never fall into a dry style of writing. The book flows nicely, and is easy to read.
Most importantly, they shine a light on issues women have in asking for what they deserve and by laying out their case in such a well-articulated fashion, they help provide answers that we can all act upon and move forward with.
The issues that the book explores impact women across all facets of their life -- from negotiating child care responsibilites to getting the recognition and compensation they deserve on the job. As a co-author of the business book "The Old Girls' Network", I see these issues in evidence in how women buiness owners also negotiate -- for contracts, for customers, in how they price their products and reticence about charging appropriately. So, I would say this book has broad appeal to stay at home moms, women in corporate life and for the large contingent of female entrepreneurs. It is a must-have addition to all of our reading lists, and one that should bring positive results.

The latest book offered by M. D. Creekmore is called The Prepper's Guide to Surviving The End of the World as We Know. This useful guide quickly and easily covers the full range of essentials in stockpiling and equipment from water, food, and tools to medicine, communications and weapons.

It's a 176-page book that it is chock full of really good advice about the most important areas. A big benefit of such an accessible book is to get a quick overview of essential preparedness so you can see where you might have gaps in your own setup. No single book can cover everything in complete detail so this "primer" includes recommended reference books in each topic--all of which appear to be practical, useful books for rounding out your reference library.

Within his guidelines are a few nuggets of in-depth reviews, like his personal experience with hand grain grinders and animal traps. We were glad to see the he got water purification issue right: he first recommends filters and only reluctantly chemicals.

I would probably have done the medical section a bit differently, but at least, he does mention natural and alternative remedies and sources. Most people forget about preparing for dental problems and he mentions some good options there. His comprehensive coverage of what makes a good Bug Out Bag is worth the price of the book alone, and comes complete with pictures of the type of gear he uses to prepare for a quick exit.

This is an excellent guide for everyone. He adds a lot of practical, tactical advice to his lists which is very valuable even if you are advanced in your preparations. It is nice to "compare notes" with other experts. The book is rooted in practical advice and is quite motivating because of the concise way he cuts through the clutter of unknowns.

Where to begin? Well, those who know me personally and even those familiar with my own books and magazine articles all have a pretty good idea about my perpetual appetite for survival-related information, and nowadays we sure do find a plethora of books, videos, magazines, and websites from a growing list of survival experts devoted to this realm, don't we? I am especially impressed with this new resource from this long-time prepper, author, and blogger MD Creekmore, and one area where I think it ascends higher than most other available prepper resources is in the comprehensive scope of it. This new book is so loaded with valuable long-term survival preparation ideas and common sense as to make it a godsend resource for every prepper's library in my humble opinion. To mention just some of the topics discussed, it addresse some of the author's reasons for prepping, water purification and water storage, food storage and other food considerations, urban gardening, raising chickens and other animals, self-defense and emergency tactical cosniderations after a societal collapse (with a brief and thoughtful overview of survival firearms), medical considerations, an in-depth discussion on bug-out bags and weighing the options of bugging out vs hunkering down, prepper communications, animal trapping, edible wild plants, bartering, long-term survival tools and gear, and plenty more. From this book I have learned things like which two-way radios are most suitable for which types of communications, and which types of traps are most suitable for harvesting specific kinds of animals, among so many other useful tidbits I'm sure I'll think of after I post this review. I intend to re-read it several times and keep it for reference. I've been looking for a book like this for quite a while, and now finally here it is. No way I can avoid going five stars on it.

Like his personal blog MD Creekmore is cogent and to the point in this book An easy read, but also a very informative one. If you are new to prepping and survival then this is an excellent guide to get you started the right way. If you have been prepping for years like me it is a great read to check if you are deficient in one area or another. What I love about the writings of MD is his practical solutions and seeking out low cost items you need, but still ensuring these are of sufficient quality. This is all gear he uses, so you know it passes muster. The guy lives the self sufficient life style so he is no armchair prepper. Good stuff and money well spent.

Another great book by an author who actually lives the life he writes about. I was happy to see that this book was like the previous books I've read by this author, and not filled with fluff and unrelated anecdotes. Just good factual info on how to get from unprepared,to prepared for any emergency. Great book for beginners as well as seasoned preppers. I found some areas in my own preparedness plan that I had overlooked thanks to M.D. Creekmore.

Kara Kangaroo Does It Right!

Kara Kangaroo's Candy takes the topic of discussing divorce with young children from overwhelming and inaccessible, and makes it intuitive and approachable to both parents and children. As a Clinical Psychologist I recognize how parents are often at a loss as to how to address their separation/divorce with their children, especially when they are young. I consider this book to be an amazing resource for my clients not only because of the cute illustrations and fun story, but particularly because of the thoughtfully and appropriately embedded message. While geared towards young children, the book covers a wide range of divorce related issues in an amazingly understandable and grounded fashion. The inventiveness of the author, Dr. Leigh Weisz (also a Clinical Psychologist), take a difficult and even agonizing topic and provide specific language on how to address divorce with children. Dr. Weisz manages to speaks directly to issues (rather than talking around them, as some other books do), without making the message cold or sterile. Perhaps one of the biggest gifts to readers comes in the form of the "Author's Note to Parents" found at the end of the text; here, Dr. Weisz thoughtfully and skillfully addresses a wide range of issues and grounds parents in what to do, why to do it, and when to go for help. I wanted to stand and applaud when Dr. Weisz speaks directly to the issue I probably face most often when working with adults and families experiencing a divorce: "Children are in tune with their parents' emotions even if a parent is not overtly communicating negative feelings." I would highly recommend Kara Kangaroo's Candy to anyone who works with families and children, and believe their is a place for this text at home, in the classroom, and in the office of mental health professionals.

This book will truly help divorcing families and friends of divorcing families

Like candy itself, this book is so sweet! Whereas so many children's books about divorce are light on plot (thereby losing the audience), "Kara Kangaroo's Candy" offers a complete, realistic, and engaging story. Moreover, I love how well this book gets to the essential point that divorce is not the fault of the child AND that, if children are not guided otherwise, they will painstakingly try to save their parents' marriage. I will place this new book prominently on my office shelf for my clients to see. I will certainly recommend they read it when they and their small children are in this predicament. Given the continued high rate of divorce, I can see suggesting this book more generally, as it can only help raise the emotional intelligence of friends of divorcing families.

Fantastic book for a children's support group

I'm a Rainbows facilitator for a group of kindergarten and first grade students whose parents are divorcing. The kids loved the book! It was the impetus for them to really start sharing with each other about the changes they're experiencing in their family. Just hearing Kara's parents say that they were divorcing normalized it for them and allowed them to say that their parents are divorcing, too. And at the end, when Kara's parents assure her that they will always love her, one of the kids stated that his parents have told him the same thing.

Highly recommended to normalize experiences and begin discussions.
