Terrific Book Loaded with Great Ideas & Shortcuts

I have developed several hundred websites over the last decade, but hadn't been bitten by the copywriting bug until a few years ago. I've purchased countless copywriting books from Amazon since, but this has easily become one of my favorites.
What separates this from other copywriting books is that Andy Maslen provides a variety of shortcuts to make the writing process much easier.
If your focus is on writing copy for sales letters, brochures, or even PowerPoint presentations, this book has you covered. Most of what I personally write is used for websites and emailed newsletters, and this book delivered plenty of new ideas for me to use.
Most books on writing copy stress the same techniques, but the Copywriting Sourcebook actually offers you starting points to help you create persuasive content that begs to be read. The first chapter on generating a great headline is worth its weight in gold, and I've been referencing it daily.
Other great chapters involve writing client case studies, and putting together powerful press releases. The author literally takes you step by step through the process of developing a case study that motivates potential customers, and leaves no stone unturned. My head was swimming with great ideas as I read his suggestions on exactly how to structure a press release. He not only lays out the framework, but shows you what goes on in the mind of journalists and editors as your release pops into their inbox.
I also appreciate the fact that the author is a funny guy, and his sometimes conversational style of writing makes this book a fun read.
There are plenty of books on copywriting that I've found useful, but this is the one that never leaves my desk. Not because it's some 800 page "Bible of Copywriting." But because it provides shortcuts that help me create better copy in less time. If you want to write more effective copy, while cutting down time and stress, definitely buy a copy of this book today.

Well written but lacks in-depth instruction

The author has done a good job of writing with a conversational tone. The editing is good and there are, gratefully, no misspellings like in so many books today. But the book is lightweight. It covers lots of types of copywriting and goes in-depth with none. It offers only very basic tips that would be useful for only the novice copywriter.
Having said that, I won't say it isn't a good book for the new copywriter. It likely is. Keep in mind, however, it's written for a British audience and what works for them doesn't always work in America. For example, he claims only one line should be used for the headline. Perhaps in the UK. In America, we've been known to use half a page! And get great results.
