Sometimes, being an ATAC agent doesn’t seem so bad. When Frank and Joe are sent to a tropical island resort in paradise to investigate a string of thefts, they’re not complaining. But once they get there, something seems off about the mission. . . . Soon the brothers feel like missing jewelry is the least of their concerns. Meanwhile, Nancy Drew, Bess, and George are staying at the hotel as guests. They, too, sense something off about this particular paradise, and when they run into Frank and Joe, it seems that no one—not even an old friend—is above suspicion.

A Bit Above Par for the Modern Nancy Drew/ Hardy Boys Stories
By Julie
I'm a huge fan of the Hardy Boys Casefiles, Nancy Drew Files, and the original 36 Super Mystery books that came out from the late 80's to the late 90's. This new breed of book (Nancy Drew Girl Detective and Hardy Boys Undercover brothers) just seems like the lite version. Don't get me wrong, lite has its place and sometimes the regular can be a little too much. Still, compared to the amount of thrills, chills, and twists thrown into the older books, these pale in comparison. (I am big enough to admit that my memories might be flavored by age, but I plan on re-reading some of the older ones to compare.)
Complaints:
-I wasn't a huge fan of the switch to first person point of view.
-It seemed like the author worked way too hard to get the environmental friendly message across.
-Frank and Joe didn't do a whole lot of thinking/ discovering, just a lot of almost dying.
-What's with Bess being a mechanical genius.
-Why does Nancy need George to look everything up for her on the computer? Geez, girl, get an iphone.
-A few times, it seemed that Nancy and the Hardys were reacting to things, not controlling or actively investigating the mystery.
-Joe might always have been smoother with the ladies, but Frank wasn't quite so much of a tongue-tied, self-described idiot in the past.
-Joe's characterization seems like he's 12 not 17.
Things they got right:
-The plot's decent. The twists and turns aren't exactly mind-blowing if you've read enough of these books, but it moves along nicely
-There's some physical action. Who doesn't like a good fistfight in a mystery?
-It's Nancy Drew and the Hardy boys in a new adventure in a decently described, pretty locale, that always counts for something.
